Next Generation Rugged AC Power Distribution Unit Available Now from API Technologies

Spectrum Power AC SmartStart PDU, 16 PortORLANDO, FL and WASHINGTON DC (AUSA: Booth #3654) — October 11, 2011 — API Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:ATNY) (“API” or the “Company”), a provider of electronic systems, subsystems, RF, and secure systems for defense, aerospace, and commercial applications, announced today that it is now shipping its second generation, 16-port, AC Switched Power Distribution Unit (PDU). The Spectrum AC SMARTStart® Gen II – Military is hardened to meet extreme temperatures, mechanical shock and vibration, and other harsh elements, while continuing to provide reliable power. The 16-port version is the latest edition to the Spectrum Power AC SMARTStart PDU product family. Experts will be on hand to discuss all of API’s products and services, including the AC SMARTStart, at AUSA Booth #3654.

“The military version of the AC SMARTStart has the ability to lockout unnecessary receptacles to prevent unauthorized loads from being added and avoiding inadvertently exceeding the permitted load,” said Tracy Shaffer, Vice President, API Technologies Spectrum Power unit. “Users can also define the power-up sequence order and time delay between devices as to more effectively manage the inrush current to avoid over current conditions resulting in circuit breaker trips.”

“Power management and monitoring can also be done remotely, which is important for unattended operations and in situations where power must be carefully controlled. It is for these reasons, Defense customers rely on our power solutions to manage and monitor a variety of mission critical systems,” added Mr. Shaffer. Remote power monitoring and power management can be performed remotely via a 10/100 Base-T LAN Telnet or an onboard Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) agent capable of SNMPv2 encrypted communications. SNMPv3 can also be incorporated.

The PDU is now available in 120 VAC or 240 VAC with 8 or 16 outlet outputs and meets MIL-STD-1686-C ESD, MIL-STD-810-F, and MIL-STD-461-E. A RJFC2G protective cap protects the LAN connector from dust and debris during transit. The PDU has a wide operating temperature range (-40°C to +60°C) and can be equipped with an external temperature sensor to support “cool-down” or “hot-start” modes via HVAC device.
